Melt Down

In the summer of 2003, I ventured out on a hike with my daughter, Tamara, and her fiance, Doug, outside of Santa Fe,NM.  It was an unusually hot day for the area... even in July... 95+ degrees.   We hiked up to the top of a mesa at mid-day... the sun was scorching, and the small mesquite trees provided NO SHADE!  THEN to top it off, we had to climb down off the side of this steep cliff using a ladder that caused extreme knee-shake in these 50 year old legs...  especially when I was overheated, which exaggerated the fear of the ladder.  After wobbling down the ladder, trying NOT to look at it's bottom perched at the top of a long drop off down the cliff, I scurried into a small cave in the cliff-side, yearning for some relief from the sun.    Ever the photographer, I snapped a shot from inside the cave...  The base picture in this piece is the cave shot.  If you look carefully through the added color explosion, you can see the cliff trail out the cave opening.   At the bottom of the photo, I added a shot of the side of my head, and used a Texas flower shot to cape my shoulders (symbolizing comforting myself with thoughts of Texas hill country...bluebonnets and Indian Paint Brush).  After pasting in a shot of the intimidating ladder, I "let go" on the "canvas" and released my overwhelming feelings of heat using colors to represent fire, and lightening.
