This trip offers everything that we love about traveling the back roads of Texas! The
Fredericksburg area of the Hill Country is one of the best-loved, scenic-filled places in
Texas. Visitors flock to experience its spectacular display of wildflowers in the Spring
and its unique atmosphere the rest of the year. You will see, as you explore
over 100 miles of this area,
that its history is truly representative of Texas multicolored roots. The trip will
begin in German-flavored Fredericksburg with a short tour that demonstrates the diversity
of its early settlers. From Fredericksburg, you will take a small side trip to the zany,
crazy town of Luckenbach. You will follow the route of a vanished railroad seeing its
ghostly remains on the countryside, landing in the small towns of Waring
and Welfare. From
there, it will be on to Comfort to learn about the Freethinkers who
settled the area, and the Union sympathizers who lost their lives. Finally, you
will follow a true Texas back road up to Fredericksburg and end your trip.
